FILM POEM
2007 / 3.43 min / Video-collage.
Film poem relates to the concept of lost time and is constructed from ‘stolen moments of cinema’ frames that are lost in time within the original projected films. I wanted to give a different approach on film language. I created a collage of 35mm film frames from USSR propaganda films, slides and garbage. I abused, scratched, cut and edited the images and entry strips. I ran the first editing through the projector and so captured the projected image on video, to keep the quality of cinematic light.
I wanted to do the editing as a devised approach on a relation of visual aspects and a rhythm based structure to the movement of images. The structural characteristics of the video are based on rhythm of the sound poetry rather than a narrative.

The medium in which I work is not transparent from its subject but its characteristics are part of the work itself. Language of the medium (or medium-specificity) plays an important part in trying to find new forms of storytelling by using interpretation and poetry to replace a traditional narrative structure.
